Innovative Welding Program Presented in Louisiana
An innovative training program has recently appeared thanks to the collaboration of Northwest Louisiana Technical College and the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office. People that are assigned to WPSO custody will get an exclusive chance to gain job skills as well as vocational certifications in welding. The program was introduced with the mission to provide offenders with useful activities and to decrease incarceration costs.
Besides, that is a great chance to reduce recidivism rates turning the communities located in Louisiana to be much safer. To start with, there are about 14 offenders to start night welding classes and the classes will be held at the NWLTC Minden Campus. The students will be provided with transportation and supervision to make the process of learning more effective.
The greatest benefit of the training program is that all the participants will have a chance to get welding certifications and NCCER industry-based credentials. Finally, each of the students will have an opportunity to receive a Technical Diploma in Welding and to get a well-paid job. Welding is an activity to occupy offenders and it was not chosen spontaneously as it is a highly paid and demanded occupation statewide. It is not a wonder that the training program was introduced in Louisiana as it has a high incarceration rate in the country. That is why all the efforts of the community members are focused on reducing recidivism rates in the area.
Organizers do not actually hope for the quick results but at least they can be sure that offenders will have a chance to find a job and to use their free time with sense. Besides, another mission of the training program is to meet the needs of the industries located in Louisiana. Moreover, this opportunity will reduce the chances for former offenders to get back to prison.
