Juniors from Jefferson High School Get Jobs after Graduation
Juniors from the Jefferson High School spend two periods of their school day in the welding class. 278 students from the high school district are part of the welding programs. Schools that are part of the district are Tampa Bay Technical High, Jefferson High School, and Hillsborough High.
Welding is one of the technical and career programs for high school students from the Hillsborough County school district. It is one way to help provide more young skilled workers to replace the current ones who are retiring from ship repair jobs based in Port Tampa Bay. Students earn industry certification after they graduate and start a welding career.
Port Tampa Bay is home to four dry dock and ship repair businesses. It is the only port that provides the services in the state of Florida or anywhere along the east coasts from Charleston, South Carolina to Mobile, Alabama as well as the Gulf.
The shipyards in Tampa Bay require new workers. The companies have a workforce of 300 and repairs around 100 ships annually. They pay welders $11 to $25 an hour. The number of jobs connected to ship repair increase to around 7,500 this year from more than 6,500 in 2010.
The welding program of the school district is the only technical and career program that allows students to get work right as long as they pass the certification test. Around 100 students are part of the Maritime Academy at Blake High and Jefferson High. Students are able to enroll in programs such as logistics and finance. Jefferson’s program is already in its second year, while Blake is on its fourth year.
Students who are part of the Maritime Academy are more likely to pursue further education that would prepare them for a professional job. They are prepared of what’s out there in the job market.
Welding can be really exciting and that is why a student gets engaged in different projects. It is the main mission of any learning is to get a student interested in all the related activities. And if a job provides this inner satisfaction, then a person has chosen the right way in life.
One of the most important things is money that can be received for the work done and welding is a good chance to become rich if you open a business in this field. But till this time, a student needs to get the proper experience in welding and to get a good reputation.
The most beneficial thing is that while studying, any future welder can get a full-time job and to earn for a living. This money can be used for covering the cost of the studies and getting the latest equipment.
